Noontime Concert: AdAstra, “Inspired by Folk”

Fri, Sep 16, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

(note a change of performers for this concert)

Westport Center for the Arts’ kicks off its 2022-23 Noontime Concert Series with a piano and cello performance inspired by folk music. The free concert on Friday, September 16 at noon features the duo Ad Astra with Melody Stroth on piano and Eman Chalshotori on cello. Their program entitled “Inspired By Folk” includes the music of Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Jimmy Webb, The Beatle, and more. It will also feature Karen Fremar’s “After a Difficult Parting.”

AdAstra has been performing high quality concerts throughout the Midwest area since 2015. Recently, they have been featured on the Ruel Joyce Recital Series, the Kansas City Musical Club, and released their first album in November of 2020 featuring composition arrangements by Hallmark’s Tracy Icenogle and internationally-renowned Mark Hayes. AdAstra says it strives to connect with every audience and provide exceptional, impactful concerts.

Pianist Melody Lee Stroth has had a studio in the Overland Park area for more than 30 years.  A nationally certified teacher of music, Stroth is a member of both the MTNA and NFMC organizations.  Chalshotoriis currently the Principal Cellist of the Topeka Symphony, Midwest Chamber Ensemble, and Associate Principal for the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. He  also teaches private lessons and enjoys collaborating with his fellow UMKC alumni in the accordio-centric group, Vivant!.

Covid Protocols: Westport Presbyterian Church requires masks at this time. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to those who need them. The Noontime Concerts previously were known as the Brown Bag series. However, following the pandemic, the name has been changed to Noontime Concerts and audience members are now asked not to bring a lunch as eating is not allowed inside the church.  Audiences are, however, welcome to stay and visit with the performers from a distance after the concert.

Financial assistance for this project has been provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
