UPDATED Dancing Word: Shining the Light, Standing in Truth
Sat, Apr 2, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Westport Center for the Arts presents a dancing word performance called “Shining the Light, Standing in Truth” featuring diverse poets and dancers. Two performances are scheduled at The Westport Presbyterian Church, 201 Westport Road, , Kansas City, Mo. on April 2 at 7 p.m. and April 3 at 2 p.m. (NOTE: The venue for this performance has been chanced from ArtsTech to the Westport Presbyterian Church).
Westport Center for Arts has created a new way for poets and dancers in Kansas City to present the arts and engage our community called the Dancing Word. Integrating dance and poetry, WCA artists collaborate to mix both mediums into a richer performance.
For the show “Shining the Light, Standing in Truth,” poets and dancers will focus on homelessness in Kansas City, police brutality and more. Poets will be performing original pieces alongside dancers who have choreographed each piece.
The professional dancers range in age from 17 to 72 and come from diverse ethic, geographic and economic backgrounds. They include: Nora Burkitt (also choreographing some dances), Kosha Chandler, Katarina Fitzpatrick, Tessa Mcneil, Christopher Peacock, and Terri Rathbun.
The poets include Taylor Brown, Glenn Stewart, Trey Newman, and Karis Harrington.
Masks will be required.
