Special Concert: Celebrate Black Composers and Martin Luther King Jr.
Mon, Jan 17, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Westport Center for the Arts’ Noontime Concert series continues with a special Martin Luther King Jr. celebration featuring the Doug Talley Quartet performing works by African American composers on Jan. 17 at noon at the Westport Presbyterian Church. This is WCA’s most popular concert of the year and audience members are remaindered to come early to make sure to get a seat.
The 2022 concert features the Doug Talley Quartet with special guest artist Al Pearson on trumpet. This annual King celebration began in 2001 and honors the African American contribution to American culture. It has become a tradition for the concert to end with the audience helping to sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” often referred to as the Black American National Anthem.
In addition to honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., the concert is made up of works by African-American composers.
The Doug Talley Quartet includes: Charles Williams on piano; James Albright on bass; Keith Kavanaugh on drums; and Doug Talley on saxophone. Special guest artist Al Pearson joins the quartet on trumpet this year.
Please remember that although our Noontime Concerts are free to everyone, we believe it is important to pay our talented artists and we ask that you consider making a contribution if possible. If you can help support the noontime series, donate here or at the concert.
