Westport Center for the Arts created The Dancing Word during the Covid-19 pandemic as a way of continuing to create arts performances when we were unable to do live theater and live music concerts.

In The Dancing Word, the arts of dance and poetry merge to create a performing art and an interpretative art. This original art form invites the viewer-listener into a unique, inner experience of beauty and meaning.

In our October performance, we celebrate Kansas City poets such as Taylor Brown and Glenn Stewart reading their own works; innovative dancers and experienced dance choreographer, Suzanne Ryanstrati;  as well as published poets (Gwendolyn Brooks, Jasmine Mans, Allen Ginsberg), whose poems are performed by a professional actress.
