Martin Luther King Jr. Concert with Doug Talley Quartet
Fri, Jan 15, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Westport Center for the Arts’ Brown Bag Livestream Concert series continues with a special Martin Luther King Jr. celebration featuring the Doug Talley Quartet. You can watch the concert live on Friday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. Or you may prefer to join us on Monday, Jan. 18 at noon for a watch party and replaying of the concert on the actual King holiday.
This special concert will feature The Doug Talley Quartet with a Concert to Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This annual King celebration began in 2001 and honors the African American contribution to American culture. It has become a tradition for the concert to end with the audience helping to sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” often referred to as the Black American National Anthem, this year to be performed by guest vocalist Millie Edwards.
In addition to Martin Luther King, Jr., the concert focuses on the African-American Jazz Heritage of Kansas City. The Doug Talley Quartet will include: Charles Williams – piano; James Albright – bass; Keith Kavanaugh – drums; and Doug Talley – saxophone.
